Schools are centers of education, yet all too often, violence and disrespect interrupt student learning and teacher instruction. On July 31, 2006 the Thomas Jefferson Area Community Criminal Justice Board and Central Virginia Restorative Justice sponsored a presentation given by Joseph Roy, the principal at Springfield Township High School just outside Philadelphia. Roy highlights the strategies undertaken in Springfield Township High School, which integrated restorative practices in 2001-2002.

This is the first of a two part podcast. In part one we’ll hear Mr. Roy’s comments on Restorative Practices. In part two, we’ll listen to questions from the attendees, followed by Mr. Roy’s comments…

Kevin Lynch joins Rick Moore to discuss global warming and the position of State Climatologist

On the August 20th edition of WNRN’s Sunday Morning Wake-Up Call, Rick discusses the controversy surrounding Virginia’s State Climatologist, UVA Professor Patrick Michaels. Prof. Michaels failed to accept his guest invitation, but Kevin Lynch joined in. Kevin has been investigating the concerns regarding Prof. Michaels’ lack of re-appointment since 1980, his conflict of interest between private funding, his state roll, and the professor’s belief that global warming is exaggerated.

Local author writes children’s book on Japanese-American internment camps

 

Amy Lee-Tai’s mother and family were forced by the federal government to relocate to an internment camp in 1942. Lee-Tai has published a children’s book inspired by her family’s experience. A Place Where Sunflowers Grow is published by Children’s Book Press.
