Virginia Attorney General Bob McDonnell joins Coy Barefoot for his monthly appearance. McDonnell talks about the sacrifices made by soldiers and citizens since the terrorist attacks of five years ago. His daughter is currently serving in Iraq. McDonnell also talks about a recent court case that upheld Virginia’s anti-spam laws, gives his thoughts on the upcoming transportation special session, and discusses the state’s anti-gouging law.

Immigration Reform: A Senior Statesmen of Virginia Forum

Kickball league kicks off operations of new Charlottesville club

A transplant from Northern Virginia has started a new group called the Charlottesville Sports & Social Club. The club began operations this past Sunday with the first games for mobile phone in the inaugural Kickball League at Azalea Park. I stopped by and spoke with club director and umpire Chad Day.

TechTrends: What’s Hot and What’s Not?

On September 8, the Virginia Piedmont Technology Council began a new lunch series of seminars called TechTrends with a discussion on “What’s Hot & What’s Not: A conversation on emerging technologies that drive your business.”

The program is introduced by VPTC Executive Director Jerry MacLean, and features Janet Driscoll Miller Lead, Search Strategist President and CEO, Search Mojo; Eric Pugh Principal, OpenSource Connections, and technology consutant Andrew Steeley. Some of the topics include, definitions of Web 2.0 and other buzz-words such as “the Long Tail,” AJAX, and the importance of web services.

Dyana Mason of Equality Virginia joins the show to talk about the Marshall-Newman amendment

The guest on the September 5 show is Dyana Mason, the executive director of Equality Virginia. The gay rights group is part of the Commonwealth Coalition, which is encouraging Virginians to vote no on the Marshall-Newman amendment to change the state Constitution to define marriage as being between a man and a woman.
