Amadeus kicks off Live Arts season

Live Arts begins its new season with the production of Peter Shaffer’s Amadeus. The play tells the story of the fictional rivalry between Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart and Antonio Salieri in the late 18th century Vienna. The play is directed by Mendy St. Ours, and runs from September 22nd through October 21st.

I attended the preview night of Amadeus, and spoke with St. Ours to find out more about the piece.

Public Forum: The Role of Religion in Politics: Jewish, Christian, & Islamic Perspectives

The group Clergy and Laity United for Justice & Peace presented a public forum on September 20th entitled “The Role of Religion in Politics: Jewish, Christian, & Islamic Perspectives.” This seventy-minute podcast version of the event features stimulating and in-depth commentary on this important and frequently misunderstood subject.

The speakers are: Russ Linden, political activist, adjunct UVa faculty member, and member of the Jewish community; Helena Cobban, columnist and member of the Friends (Quaker) community; and Abdulaziz Sachedina, Ph.D., UVa Professor of Religious Studies and member of the Islamic community.

Best Seat: NCAA’s Kevin Lennon on the Ray Ray McElrathby decision

In the second interview from the September 20th, Kevin Lennon of the NCAA to tell how the organization reached
the decision to allow Clemson to set up a trust fund to help Ray Ray McElrathby take care of his 11-year-old brother. McElrathby won temporary custody of his brother because his mother has an addiction to cocaine.

McElrathby was the subject of the first interview from today.

Best Seat: Clemson’s Ray Ray McElrathby on taking care of his 11-year-old brother

On the September 20th edition of WINA’s “The Best Seat in the House”, Jed Williams talked with Clemson’s Ray Ray McElrathby. McElrathby, a defensive back, has gained custody of his
11-year-old brother, Fahmarr. The NCAA recently gave McElrathby a waiver to
allow him raise money to support himself and his brother.

Charlottesville–Right Now: Bob Gibson on the recent Webb-Allen debates

Bob Gibson of the Daily Progress raced back from Fairfax County to join Coy Barefoot on the September 18th edition of WINA’s Charlottesville–Right Now to talk about the third debate between Senator George Allen and his Democratic challenger Jim Webb. Bob weighs in on how two debates between the two men in two days changed or didn’t change the race. Allen and Webb were also on Meet the Press this past Sunday.

Charlottesville–Right Now: Rich Collins on new evidence he says could overturn his trespassing conviction

Former House of Delegates candidate Rich Collins says he was not being disruptive when he was arrested for trespassing while campaigning for office outside Whole Foods. And he says he has just discovered the video evidence to help overturn his conviction. Collins joined Coy Barefoot to give the details on the September 18th edition of WINA’s Charlottesville–Right Now to make his case, in advance of his appeal on Wednesday.
