CRN: Heather Burns of the Charlottesville Writing Center

Heather Burns founded the Charlottesville Writing Center eleven years ago to help train people to write, how to connect writers, and to encourage each others’ work. This summer, the CWC is sponsoring the Freedom Writers Summer Writing Camp to help students to think critically.

From their website:

FREEDOM WRITERS SUMMER WRITING CAMP
Attention Area Young Writers! Join with other Freedom Writers to create an awesome summer community experience of writing. We’re offering a mix of two and three week sessions and two one week sessions for back-to-school writing prep. Workshops start June 18th and run through August 9th for students grades 3-12. It is the hope and goal of the CWC that scholarship funding will be available.

  1. I did get a chance to listen to this podcast featuring Heather Burns of the Ch’ville writing center. I was extremely impressed by Heather and with the many exciting things happening with her group. She was entertaining and articulate —-I sensed a real enthusiasm for her work. Many Charlottesvillians could certainly benefit from the Writing Center’s offerings. I do hope many people will take advantage of these opportunities.

The Writing Center is fortunate to have someone as intelligent and well-spoken as Heather at its helm. I applaud what they are doing and the way they are going about it.

  2. Thanks for writing, Sally. Feel free to send the link to the podcast to as many people as you can. I also had never heard very much about the CWC, but now I know a lot more.

  3. If indeed “The pen is mightier than the sword”, the delightful Heather Burns is to be commended on her munitions factory. (Okay, a sword is not a munition, but I took some poetic license.) What an amazing resource for high school and college students and writers of all ages. Bravo, CWC!
