This week WPVC’s Sunday Morning Wake-up Call host Rick Moore talks with International Rescue Committee Executive Director for Charlottesville Harriet Kuhr about the IRC, its mission, history, process and the current politics of refugee settlement since the Paris attacks.

Harriet Kuhr joined the IRC in Atlanta in 2004 as manager of the program that helps resettled refugees find employment. In 2006, she became the manager of resettlement services, eventually overseeing a staff of some 20 case managers, employment coordinators and logistics specialists. She has been executive director of the IRC in Charlottesville since April 2010.

Her prior work experience includes more than 20 years working in the field of international cultural exchange. She is a graduate of the University of Virginia.

This week WPVC’s Sunday Morning Wake-up Call host Sean McCord stands in for Rick Moore. In this episode, Sean talks with the University of Virginia’s Robert Chapel about his direction of “Our Town”.

Robert Chapel is professor of Drama and former chair (1990-2005) of the University of Virginia’s Department of Drama. He has been with the Heritage Theater since 1987, first as a stage director, then as managing and stage director and, since 1995, as its producing artistic director. Bob also chaired the Virginia 2020 Commission on the Fine and Performing Arts. In addition, he has served as executive director of the Virginia Film Festival. Bob is currently directing his last play at UVA before retiring, Thornton Wilder’s Our Town, which concludes with a 2:00 p.m. matinee today.

This week WPVC’s Straight Talk host Andri Hakes talks with Charlottesville attorney Doris Gelbman about Elder law. Gelbman’s firm Gelbman Law PLLC is focused exclusively on Elder Law in Central Virginia, including the City of Charlottesville, the surrounding counties and Shenandoah Valley.

Before starting her law firm, Gelbman was a technical and marketing computer analyst for a major international computer manufacturer then later worked in broadcast radio and television. She spent many years traveling to, and living in places all around the globe; learning about other languages and cultures as well as international business practices and technology. At age 37 she went to college, graduating summa cum laude in history and three years later completed law school near the top of her class.

Ms. Engelhard talks about the latest ACA enrollment numbers, who is still not insured and the politics of Medicaid expansion. The Kentucky Governer’s plan to reduce Medicaid expansion and how it will affect 400,000 Kentucky residents is also examined.

Carolyn Engelhard is the Director, Health Policy Program, Department of Public Health Sciences at the University of Virginia School of Medicine. Ms. Engelhard also writes for The Hill, a widely read policy/political source for staffers on The Hill in Washington DC. Her most recent story We Are All on the Government Dole talks about the government’s role in providing health care.

On the October 31, 2015 edition of Straight Talk with Andri Hakes on 94.7, the two candidates running for Albemarle County Commonwealth’s Attorney dropped by the studio to answer questions and explain why they want the position. Denise Lunsford (D) is the incumbent seeking a second eight-year term. Robert Tracci (R) is hoping to unseat Lunsford.
