Oh No!! My pet had a seizure!!

Seizures can have a number of causes, including toxins, low blood sugar, low calcium, kidney or liver problems, blood clots to the brain or “strokes,” infectious diseases, inflammation of or around the brain, cancer, epilepsy, and trauma. In pets that are predisposed to having seizures, stress and different medications can also cause seizures. In addition, stopping certain medications can cause seizures.

Real Life with Jennifer Till: Near Death Experience

There is a smaller, but still sizeable group, for whom death and life has a different, but no less profound connection. According to an informal survey conducted several years ago, 4-5% of all Americans have had a near death experience, or NDE. That’s approximately 15 million people in this country, a number that certainly warrants serious investigation, research and conversation; something with which both of my guests this morning agree, although both approach it from their own unique and personal perspective. And both share the absolute conviction that such experience is, at its core, all about changes in one’s state of consciousness

I am joined in the studio by PMH Atwater, researcher, spiritualist, author, public speaker, prayer chaplain and visionary, who, as the title of one of her books says “died three times in 1977”. According to her biography on Wikipedia she “is a pioneer in subjects like near-death experiences, the aftereffects of spiritual experiences, transformations of consciousness, reality shifts and future memory.”

Vet Tips from Greenbrier Emergency Animal Hospital

Pets and Snake Bites: Act Quickly!

As the weather warms, our slithery, venomous snake friends become more active. And snake bites are a very common problem in the summertime. Our pets are very curious creatures and tend to lead with their noses and their front limbs, so that’s where we see the most bites (on the face and front legs). These bites often cause extreme pain, swelling and bruising, and that’s typically what you as an owner will notice first, if you don’t happen to see the snake itself. You may also see puncture marks that may be bleeding or oozing.

Chew The Fat With Chef Craig

Listen in to hear Francoise speak about her journey to become a rising star food writer!

Francoise Villeneuve is currently working as a Features Writer for an on-line culinary magazine. Her articles have been published in New York, NY and Richmond, VA. After graduating from Columbia University and recovering from the tragedy of not being able to read Camus books for a living, she attended The Culinary Institute of America, where her scone consumption rose drastically. Fluent in French and Italian, she’s worked in some of New York’s top restaurants, including Aquavit and Park Avenue Cafe, as well as Chicago’s Spiaggia, and covered food, wine and travel-related stories in a number of publications, from The Richmond Times-Dispatch to Time Out New York. After all that food, she spends her spare time shopping for progressively larger pants.

Produced and recorded in the studios of Charlottesville Radio Group, in conjunction with Chef Craig Hartman, Chew the Fat is the podcast that gives you totally raw interviews with leading chefs, restaurateurs, wine makers and other food artisans. These interviews are unscripted and outside the realm of publicists, conducted by accomplished Chef Craig Hartman.
