On the March 9th edition of the Sunday Morning Wake-Up Call on WNRN, two representatives from Appalachian Voices join host Rick Moore to talk about Dominion Virginia’s plans to build a new coal power plant in Southwestern Virginia. Tom Cormons is the director of the Charlottesville offices for Appalachian Voices, and Mike McCoy is a field organizer from Richmond – they discuss the so-called “green” power plant: why it’s important to Dominion Virginia, what makes it “green,” and what it could have on the area.

Callers chime in with their questions about the plant: How many jobs will this provide? Why has this plant been getting so much media attention? What are the pros and cons? For more information, the Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ) has posted links to Dominion’s application for a permit that will explain the company’s attempts to limit air pollution from the facility, including mitigation plans. The facility is known as the Virginia City Hybrid Energy Center, and the engineering analysis is halfway down the page.
DEQ is taking public comment until March 12.

On this March 2nd, 2008 edition of WNRN’s Sunday Morning Wake-Up Call,two experts on the subject of epilepsy join host Rick Moore for a discussion about the condition.

Suzanne Bischoff of the Epilepsy Foundation of Virginia and Assistant Professor Howard Goodkin of UVa’s Department of Neurology discuss subjects such as: Is medication the only way to treat Epilepsy? What about diet and nutrition, or other less conventional solutions? The guests discuss this, as well as how loved ones of those with Epilepsy deal with the disorder.

The afternoon before the 80th annual Academy Awards, three movie experts visited the WNRN studios for the Wake-Up Call’s annual Oscars show. Ben Nuckols and Tom Dumontier (two films reviewers for WNRN), and Adam Greenbaum (the owner of an independent movie theater) discussed their predictions for winners, and delved into what types of movies tend to get nominated and win. They also talked about how the recent writers’ strike has affected the Academy Awards – will this be a laugh-out-loud night to remember, or a quickly thrown-together mess?

On this special late Valentine’s Day episode of the Wake-Up Call, host Rick Moore brings three guests into the studio to talk about love and relationships. They talk about whether they believe in love at first sight, the different types of relationships that exist, and what exactly love is. They also discuss friendships with exes, and how their beliefs about love have changed as they’ve gotten older.
