2.14.11 Best-selling non-fiction author David Swanson joins Coy with an update on the revolution in Egypt. Swanson describes just how inspiring the revolution is to civil rights activists around the world. He notes the impact of non-violent training by the citizen activists in the streets of Egypt, and says that method of protest is more effective than military involvement. Along those lines, Swanson comments on the importance of the writings of noted non-violence author Gene Sharp being translated into Arabic. 2.14.11 Founder and President of Virginia Tomorrow Bob Holsworth joins Coy to discuss all things Virginia politics. The big story, of course, is the decision of Jim Webb to retire at the end of his term. Holsworth gives his assessment of the reaction of both parties to the announcement, and he also talks about the chances of Tim Kaine claiming the nomination, and the chances of Tom Perriello running, given his seemingly large grassroots support.
2.14.11 Chief of the City of Charlottesville Fire Department Charles Werner joins Coy to discuss the windy conditions. Today has been declared a red flag day, meaning there is a high chance for brush fires to occur, and a couple have already been reported. In addition, Werner talks about a crazy accident involving a tree falling onto a car. Finally, he talks about some precautions that should be taken in hazardous weather conditions like these.
2.9.11 Founder and President of The Rutherford Institute John Whitehead joins Coy to discuss the Patriot Act. Today on Charlottesville Right Now, Whitehead poses the question: Are our schools becoming police states? He tells some fascinating stories about students who have been expelled from school for ridiculous reasons, including one boy dismissed for drawing a picture of his military uncle in action and another boy thrown out for bringing a LEGO police officer to class because the officer’s miniature plastic gun was judged to be a violent weapon. 2.9.11 Author, Pastor, and Executive Director of The Monroe Institute Paul Rademacher joins Coy to discuss his new book A Spiritual Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Universe. Rademacher tells the story of how he first became interested in being a Presbyterian Minister, why he moved away from that field, and what he feels is the missing ingredient in the spiritual world today. Rademacher believes that you do not necessarily have to be religious to be spiritual, and the full title of his book is A Spiritual Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Universe: Travel Tips for the Spiritually Perplexed.
2.9.11 Member of the Albemarle County School Board Diantha McKeel joins Coy to discuss the budget. McKeel discusses the process of how the School Board’s requests of the Albemarle County Board of Supervisors become realities. Also, McKeel explains this year’s class schedule changes and the impact it has had on both teachers and students.
2.8.11 Star journalist from The HookCourteney Stuart joins Coy to discuss the latest news in the Morgan Harrington case. DNA evidence has linked a man wanted for committing rape in Fairfax to the Harrington crime scene. This unsettling new information confirms that a serial criminal is behind this tragic event. Also in today’s conversation, Stuart addresses some of the areas where police have recently “filled in the blanks.” Stuart’s latest story will be on the cover of the upcoming edition of The Hook, and you can pick one up in the red boxes around Charlottesville.
2.8.11 Member of the Albemarle County Board of Supervisors Rodney Thomas joins Coy to discuss local politics. Today’s conversation centers on the new breakdown of the County’s budget, but Thomas also gives his thoughts on the public school class scheduling system, the proposed development at the Hollymead Town Center site, and (of course) the water supply plan. Richard Lloyd from Citizens for a Sustainable Water Supply Plan also weighs in with some questions about dredging.

First on the agenda- for today’s interview at least- is the water supply plan including the issue of dredging. In addition, Mayor Norris touches on a bidding war over a piece of land in Charlottesville and talks about what else will be up for debate at tonight’s meeting.
2.7.11 Vice President of Planned Parenthood David Nova joins Coy to discuss a recent sting operation against Planned Parenthood. A recent video coming out of Charlottesville shows a man asking a nurse at a Planned Parenthood center questions about a host of sexually related illegal activities. Nova gives his reaction to the video and explains his organization’s protocol for dealing with such situations.
