Uranium mining was banned in 1982 by the Virginia general assembly. Uranium is radioactive and can be very dangerous, especially to bodies of water during major storms, and it has been linked to cancer.

The shelter helps people that are victims of domestic violence, finds safe shelters for people, has a 24 hour hot line, provides counseling and children’s programs, etc. The design house fundraiser benefits the shelter and starts on May 6 with the top hat gala from 7-10 PM.

Host Rick Moore speaks with author, Barbara Nordin, about Pat Collin’s mystery. In 1986, Pat Collins was a graduate student who disappeared from UVA. UVA tried to prove that Collins left UVA voluntarily. What happened to Pat Collins is still unknown today.

The president of Egypt, Honsi Mubarak, stepped down from his position earlier this week after serving many years in office. They talk about things such as how the role of Egypt’s military could change, how change to Egypt’s government can take a long time, and how the new role of government may not be what the people want.
