3.24.11 Former news director on News Radio 1070 WINA Mike Gleason joins Coy to recount the best stories in Charlottesville history which he witnessed first hand. Gleason held the position back in the mid-1960′s, but spent time covering news in Central Virginia for decades both with the Daily Progress and as the first television newscaster in CVille. Among the stories recounted today are the student protests at UVA, the Vietnam War, and the city’s Bicentennial celebration.

One Response to “Charlottesville–Right Now: Mike Gleason joins Coy Barefoot”

  1. Just heard your Podcast interview w/ Mike Gleason. I was news director/operations manager at WINA 1962-68 and hired Mike Gleason. I beleive he was just out of high school. He was a very talented writer and had a great delivery on the air, sounding much more mature for such a young man. I’ve wondered what happened to Mike. Could you put me in touch w/ him or send him my email address. My thanks to Robert Hanger who emailed me your Podcast. Mike and I worked w/ Robert (Bob Grant on the air) at WINA.
I’d also like to know all that’s happening at WINA these days. Coy, you work in a great town.
