Rick Moore and Jim Duncan, Charlottesville real estate broker look back at the Charlottesville real estate market in 2009. The Don’t Know Much series by Ken Davis began 20 years ago with a book that looked at how much American’s history education was lacking. The series now has other volumes that explore American’s knowledge gaps on geography, space, dinosaurs, and more.

Davis recently joined Brad Savage on 106.1 The Corner to discuss the myths, legends, and true history behind the common Holiday traditions today. The pair cover mistletoe, Santa Claus and his reindeer, the 12 Days of Christmas, the abbreviation “Xmas” and more.

Rob Halford, the legendary Judas Priest frontman and metal-god talks about his newholiday album “Winter Songs”. He and Brad Savage discuss the cover of Sara Bareilles/Ingrid Michaelson’s “Winter Song” and his lengthy career as a legend of the heavy metal genre.

 

Jeff Sweatman talks with Joss Stone about her new album “Colour Me Free”. The 22-year-old UK starlet got her start in music at age 15, and this is already her fourth album. Jeff also got her to share a great James Brown story.

 

Before their sold out concert at The Jefferson Theater, Sharon Jones and a couple Dap Kings dropped by The Corner Lounge to talk about the holidays, Daptone Records, and their plans for 2010.

Melissa Howard talks to the former prison guard about her career as a frontwoman for the band that has a true 70’s-soul throwback sound, and how she feels about Amy Winehouse’s success using the same group as her backing band.

 

Before a sold out Corner-sponsored concert at The Southern, The Infamous Stringdusters and special guest Sara Watkins performed a five-song Corner Lounge Private Performance at The Sound Studios in Charlottesville. There was an audience of about 60 Corner VIP contest winners in attendance for this live session recording.

 

Before his first-ever concert appearance in Charlottesville, Joe Purdy dropped by The Corner Lounge and played some epic solo/acoustic songs! Joe is from rural Arkansas and has 12 albums to his credit, and has become one of the most successful artists with an internet-based following, while not having any major “hits” or significant radio airplay.

 

Genna Matthew got her start at age 15 at the Music Resource Center. Her debut full-length album “Don’t Let The Sun” was just released. She’s also a UVA first-year and talks about life as a student and performing singer-songwriter. She also performs live/acoustic in The Corner Lounge, and talks about the song “Waitlist” which has become a UVA favorite, about her time on the school’s Wait List.
