Wake-Up Call: How to Stay Healthy

For the January 27th edition of the Sunday Morning Wake-Up Call, host Rick Moore delves into a topic at the top of many New Years’ Resolutions: staying healthy. Melanie Brede, a registered dietitian; and Dr. Diane Wakat, who runs a private nutrition clinic, join Rick in the studio to talk about health in today’s lifestyle. They answer questions about fast food (how much?), preventing diabetes, and offer some alternative ways of looking at the traditional food pyramid.

Later on in the show, the guests also answer questions and worries that callers have about their own health and diets. Does chicken soup really help you get better?   1. I need to take a moment and apologize to the INDIVIDUALS in charge of the area school nutrition programs. I spent a lot of time attempting to have someone from an area school system be a guest on last week’s show, hoping to learn more about school nutrition decisions, etc. However, when I ranted about folks failing to take advantage of a community educational hour I should have been referring to the bureaucratic system that would not allow these folks to join in the discussion, or at least slowed down the possibility. There are people at the other end of my verbal darts and those folks, working under the constraints of ‘the system’, didn’t deserve to be hit.

  2. “Heal thy self”, is a great definition for the word “Healthy”. The concept of “treadmill”, is to keep walking to stay in place but to keep walking to move forward. Just keep eating right and excercising and not pay to much attention to your weight! Practice healthy behaviors keeps you healthy. Dr. Diane Wakat and Melanie Reed really explain this topic very well. The Podcast is a must “hear” if you value your health, or want to become healthier.
