Tom Frederick of the Rivanna Water and Sewer Authority joins Rick Moore on WNRN’s Sunday Morning Wake-Up Call to answer questions about Charlottesville and Albemarle County’s water supply, given the recently declared drought. Frederick explains the drought warning regulations recently enacted by both City and County officials, how the University of Virginia plays into the situation, and plans for addressing the community’s water supply by increasing capacity.

[...] impact on the environment ought not be a political issue; conservation makes sense (particularly now in the midst of a drought). It just makes sense – primarily from a fiscal point of view – who doesn’t want to save [...]
If the City of Cville and the Co of Albemarle share the same water sources then I’m very concerned by the recent decision of the Albemarle County Service Authority to allow County residents to water their trees, shrubs, plants and lawns beginning 10/22/07 especially since a mild temp/wetless winter is predicted. I’d like to know what protection measures are in place for the communities as a whole? My call to the ACSA today yielded a very frustrated Co. department that has received numerous complaints about the lessened restrictions as well as complaints from Co. lawn care/nursery businesses and residents who have spent several $1,000s on their lawns and plantings and don’t mind paying a fine for continuing to water despite the earlier restrictions.
