Charlottesville–Right Now: Christine Todd Whitman on moderate Republicanism

Former New Jersey Governor Christine Todd Whitman now heads up a group called My Party Too, a political action committee that works to support moderate Republicans across the country.Whitman recently wrote It’s My Party Too: The Battle for the Heart of the GOP and the Future of America. Whitman recently spoke with Coy Barefoot about the group, as well as her stint at head of the Environmental Protection Agency.

Charlottesville–Right Now: Speaker Bill Howell on Virginia’s new state budget

This week, the long stalemate between the two house of the General Assembly ended when the House rejected amendments made by Governor Tim Kaine. Speaker of the House Bill Howell of Fredericskburg joined Coy Barefoot on the June 29 edition of WINA’s Charlottesville–Right Now. He gave his assessment of the budget, Virginia’s transportation problems, and the 2006 General Assembly session.

Charlottesville–Right Now: Delegate David Toscano on Virginia’s new state budget

Virginia finally has a state budget after the General Assembly voted on amendments Governor Tim Kaine suggested. However, Delegate David Toscano of Charlottesville is concerned the Republican majority voted to kill most of those amendments, including $3.75 million for a project he says would have helped Lynchburg prevent raw sewage from pouring into the James River. Toscano had his say on the June 28 edition of WINA’s Charlottesville–Right Now.

Jack Marshall of ASAP: Towards an “optimal sustainable population”

We all have opinions on the growth going on in Charlottesville and surrounding counties. But Jack Marshall is well-positioned to make his declaration that Albemarle County needs to set an “optimal sustainable population.” Marshall is a cultural anthropologist who spent many years studying the effects of population growth. Now he’s the president of Advocates for a Sustainable Albemarle Population. He spoke at the annual meeting of the Ivy Creek Foundation on June 25, 2006, in the Foundation’s new education building.
